Zofran (ondansetron): used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting.

Side effects: the most common side effects are headache, diarrhea and dizziness. Notify your doctor or seek emergency medical assistance if these symptoms become severe or you experience other symptoms including: 

  • blurred vision or vision loss
  • rash
  • hives
  • itching
  • swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, throat, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
  • hoarseness
  • difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • chest pain
  • shortness of breath
  • dizziness, light-headedness, or fainting
  • fast, slow or irregular heartbeat
  • agitation
  • hallucinations (seeing things or hearing voices that do not exist)
  • fever
  • excessive sweating
  • confusion
  • nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
  • loss of coordination
  • stiff or twitching muscles
  • seizures
  • coma (loss of consciousness)

Notify your clinician prior to treatment if you have a history of long QT syndrome as Zofran has been known to prolong the QT interval which can lead to life-threatening dysrhythmias. (Burchum and Rosenthal, 2019)

Notify your clinician if you are currently taking any medications or have any allergies to any medications.
